Summer ‘13: Chatter Answers Joins the Sales Cloud

In Salesforce.com’s Summer ‘13 release, the Chatter Answers feature is now available to Sales Cloud users. This opens up a new set of options for businesses that want to increasingly centralize business operations on the Salesforce platform. For administrators and business users curious about what’s behind the hype, here’s how this feature can benefit a company’s internal users (versus its customers) based on basic testing in my pre-release org.

Salesforce Public Tags: Potential for Greatness

What Are Tags?

Back in the heyday of StumbleUpon and Delicious, tagging was all the rage. One had the ability to view a webpage, and categorize it using whatever set of labels you wanted, that worked best for your brain’s organizational style. Those labels were then searchable, in order to find items you’ve saved. Salesforce.com took that consumer web feature, and allowed you to tag practically every record to whatever object you wanted. Its classic examples were that you could tag a Contact record as a “golfer”, or something to help you better relate to your clients. Salesforce tags could be for your own personal use (so only you could see them), or they could be public tags (where your tag could be seen by others in the company).

How to Log a Voicemail Call in Salesforce

The Salesforce folks have started publishing short best practice snippets over on YouTube.

Here’s a customization tip that describes how to create a custom button that performs two actions for you:

  • Logs a completed activity (that you made a call and left a voicemail),
  • Creates a new task to follow up later with a call

So if you’re confident in your basic Salesforce Administrator skills, this is a nice little productivity tool for your reps.

Note: The video only mentions that once this button is created, you’ll have to know how to add it to the appropriate page layouts, so you should be familiar with that concept.

Salesforce for Google Apps – Launch Demo

Eons ago (mid-April), the same team that brought you Salesforce for Google AdWords launched Salesforce integration with other business apps in the Google Apps suite: GMail, Google Documents, Google Talk, and Google Calendar.

The good folks at ZDNet published the launch and demo, in case you couldn’t make it.

I’ll be going into more detail later about how to set up each aspect of these apps.
