Registering Technorati

As you can tell, this web site is still under construction in various areas. I’ve been playing with Technorati here and there and this post is meant to prove that I write on this site. Go figure.

Dreamforce 2007 – Non-Profit Registration

For you non-profits that are evaluating or just beginning to use Salesforce.com for Nonprofits, I highly recommend you attend Salesforce.com’s global user conference this September, in San Francisco. I went last year with a board member for the non-profit that I help out, and we were able to network with other non-profit Salesforce.com administrators as well as partners that specialized in implementing Salesforce for non-profits. Even more enticing, registration for non-profit users is subsidized and available for $99. That’s about 90% off the list price for this 3.5-day conference. (No, I don’t get any commission by mentioning this.) The Salesforce.com Foundation mentions the registration code you should use (and you will be verified against your org to ensure you do belong to a non-profit), and the general registration page starts here.

Salesforce.com for Nonprofits

For those of you who are new to salesforce.com, the company also runs a foundation. One of its charters is to donate CRM licenses to qualified nonprofit organizations to help them better manage their various constituents (donors, corporate sponsors, grant recipients, volunteers, etc.).

That’s right. Free salesforce.com licenses! Whoa, whoa. Hold your horses. If you’re part of a nonprofit, please read the following.

Before going for the shiny new free ball, stop and consider a few things:

Turning Off Task and Event Reminders

Turning off remindersIn the Winter ’07 Edition, Salesforce.com introduced Popup Reminders. Now, if you find yourself getting a lot of popup reminders for your tasks or events (and your desktop is already riddled with all the reminders from your Microsoft Outlook calendar), there is hope. You can turn these off (and you don’t have to be an administrator).

  1. Simply go to Setup > My Personal Information > Reminders
  2. Uncheck the box next to “Trigger alert when reminder comes due”
  3. Remember to hit the Save button
  4. Voila.
